UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN- LA CROSSE TO HOST OUTMEDIA’S ‘QUEER CAMPUS CULTUREFEST
La Crosse, WI & Brooklyn, NY, January 28th, 2011- The University of Wisconsin- La Crosse will be hosting OUTmedia’s Queer Campus CultureFEST on April 8th and 9th, 2011 in La Crosse, Wisconsin in recognition of Emily Wunderlich’s winning video from Campus Pride and OUTmedia's ‘Be Queer, Buy Queer!' international video contest and campaign.

OUTmedia’s Queer Campus CultureFEST will feature several of OUTmedia’s premier artists that have been featured nationally and internationally, promoting positive LGBTQ visibility and multiculturalism, including:

Ben Lerman, NYC Ukulele Comedian

If the Flight of the Conchords and Zach Galifianakis raised a secular Christmas miracle baby, it would be NYC's ukulele comedian Ben Lerman. Armed with his wee ukulele, powerful voice, and twisted point of view, Ben gets huge laughs because his songs have real emotion behind them. From a pirate love story to tender lullabies, Ben's songs point to the humor in all of our lives and relationships, and in the world around us. His affable nature and playful wit have made his live show a perennial hit in from Chicago to Edinburgh.  Ben appeared at Creating Change 11, headling the main youth event, MassQUEERade Ball and is now currently touring the Mid-Atlantic.  TimeOut NY raves, "Ukulele player Ben Lerman tickles our funny bone with his big mouth and tiny instrument. Ben Lerman’s deadpan delivery [is] so damn funny... ."

  Kit Yan, NYC Slam Poet

Kit’s work has been taught at universities coast to coastfrom San Francisco State to Harvard, most recently appearing at Creating Change as the emcee of the MassQUEERade Ball and continuing his Midwestern tour.  He is the voice of the "Be Queer, Buy Queer" contest, the "Queer the Census" campaign and HBO's "East of Main Street: Asian's Aloud." He spoke to over 200,000 from the stage of the 2009 National Equality March, performed on the San Francisco Pride main stage, and earned a spot in as a top 3 finalist at the National Queer Slam. Kit Yan is the reigning Mr. Transman 2010, the first person to ever hold this national title. Kit Yan’s spoken word tackles race and gender with candor, eloquence, and humor. Hailed by the press as“a slam force to be reckoned with”, Yan’s resolute delivery packs a mighty punch, leaving his audience completely transfixed. Wittily crafted and genuinely passionate, his pieces are rare treasures amongst a new generation of slam poets.

C.C. Carter, Chicago Spoken Word Artist

    C. C. Carter is a full-figured and humble diva. She is an amazingly engaged, spirited, and loving poet who teaches the world about being a whole, sexy and sound woman striving for truth, justice, and peace.  Carter strives to reshape (pun intended) our thinking about size and sensuality, ranging from body positive speaking to erotic domains.  She has been featured with folks such as StaceyAnn Chin, Andrea Gibson and Nikki Giovanni. She is an actress, a teacher and an activist, working with colleges in developing creative writing.  In her larger organizational work, Carter has contributed to the board at Astraea and organized the cultural festival for Chicago's hosting of the 2002 Gay Games.

Julie Goldman, LA comedian and screenwriter

Julie Goldman is currently a cast member of LOGO's Big Gay Sketch Show and winner of the LOGO's NewNowNext - Brink of Fame Comic Award.  She was most recently featured with Jane Lynch as a musical and comedy guest at the 2010 VH-1 ‘DO Something Awards’. Julie glides effortlessly between lesbian folk singer "Pepper Stein Whalesong" to the beloved Liza Minelli in the now infamous "Super Liza" Series. Julie has been garnering massive attention around the country performing stand up in clubs and colleges - headlining various shows and working beside Sarah Silverman, Lewis Black, and Jeff Garlin, to name just a few. She is favorite on Olivia cruises and R' Family Vacations and has appeared doing stand up on LOGO, VH-1, and Comedy Central.  Julie is a superstar with range, a politically progressive focus, and a history of being a pioneer in queer comedy of this generation.
